Man From Milwaukee

August 28,1997 was one of the best days of my life. Why? Because I was going to a Hanson concert. We arrived at the radio station, FM97 WLAN, around 11am to sign waivers. After waiting for about 45 minutes we finally boarded the bus with the afternoon DJ and all of the other winners. As the bus pulled away from the station, the DJ announced that we were being filmed for Hanson's video "I Will Come To You" and their documentury, "Tulsa, Tokyo, And The Middle Of Nowhere."

The ride to New York City was to be about 3 hours so everyone started to talk about Hanson and other things. We told how we won the tickets. One girl was caller 97 and she had to hammer her phone 97 times. Three girls had stood outside with signs that said they liked Hanson and stuff like that. They were brought into the station and to win the tickets they had to answer Hanson trivia. I won mine by being caller 97 and saying the phrase we were told to say earlier that night. The phrase was, "Thanks to FM97, I'm pregnant with Isaac Hanson's 3-headed love child". Most of the girls on the bus had brought gifts for Hanson. One girl was giving Taylor red and white carnations, another was giving Taylor a teddy bear, one was giving each Hanson a balloon, a girl who was 11 was giving Taylor a jumbo pack of gum (don't ask why), and my sister Toni and I gave them each a necklace of ours (a silver beaded chain with a silver whale tail charm on it, a leather string necklace with 2 silver dolphins jumping over a clear ball, and a leather string necklace, and the 3rd one had a sorta large bead on it with the like a snake head with antennas, 2 maroon and 2 silver beads on a leather string). When we were getting closer to New York City, a white limo pulled past the bus and a lot of girls on the bus waved to it, hoping it was Hanson.

Around 3:15 we finally arrived at the Beacon Theater. At 4, while everyone was still in line, Hanson arrived. They were dropping off their back-up band at the side entrance and Hanson wasn't supposed to get out, because they were getting out at the front entrance, but Taylor jumped out of the van and silly-stringed the line, which basically caused everyone to go wild and for him to get in trouble with security/police. (We got a picture of this scene, but it didn't turn out.) Once Taylor was back in the van, they went to the front entrance to get dropped off.

In about 15 minutes, I felt a drip of water and I looked up at the window and there was an arm with a black sleeve dumping spring water on us. Once the arm slipped back inside, everyone was going crazy and a few seconds later Taylor popped his head out the window, pouring more spring water on us. Basically from the waist up on my right side I was soaked. (I got a picture of this and it did come out) (oh, and if you are wondering, he poured Poland Spring's Spring Water and that is the type of water they drank throughout the concert)

Within a few minutes we were allowed to enter the theater and went to our seats. No matter where you sat, you had a great seat. (If you want to know how big the theater was, it was about as big as the Fulton Opera House.) (The Fulton is located in Lancaster, PA, and it is the oldest theater in the US. It's not that big of a theater because they made the stage bigger, which meant they had to make the sitting area smaller) Hanson was selling merchandise which was selling quickly. My 2 sisters each bought 1 T-shirt and 1 calendar with our own money and our mom bought us each 1 T-shirt and 1 poster. Before the show had even started they were almost sold out.

Between 5:30-5:45, Hanson finally started their 'concert'. The order of the songs were 'Thinking of You' (I think), 'Where's The Love', 'Madeline' and 'Man From Milwaukee' sung acapella, 'A Minute Without You', and then 'MMMBop'. When they were done with these songs, Hanson was presented with some sort of award. I think it was their double platinum award. I'll have to check my pictures. Then Hanson took a short break. During their break, my sister, Toni, and I squeezed our way through the crowd to the 2nd row. Hanson soon came back out and sang the same five songs over again. During 'MMMBop', Toni and I threw our necklaces up to them. The 2 I had were for Taylor and Isaac. I was going to throw them separately but Isaac was standing in the way to throw 1 to Taylor so I threw 'em together and they both landed in the back by Zac. Zac saw them land. Toni's was for Zac, but her's hit someone's hand and it landed by Isaac. After we had thrown them up, the security guard (***guess what? It wasn't no security guard that talked to us, it was Hanson's main bodyguard, Jason.***) told us that everything thrown up on stage usually gets thrown away. He then asked if we had anything else for them and he'd give it to them, but we didn't. He then said he'd try to somehow get the necklaces to them. Hanson then finished singing and went to take another break before the recording for their MTV rock video. During the break, security asked everyone to go back to their original seats. We went back to our seats and sat down. Our mom then came down and told us to come up to the balcony. We got up on the balcony, and I had a much better view up there. Hanson then came out to get ready to sing. Isaac was wearing my sister Toni's necklace that she had thrown up on stage earlier, it looked like Zac was wearing one of the necklaces I had thrown up, and we couldn't tell if Taylor was wearing my other necklace because he already had on 3 other necklaces. My mom had been told earlier that we weren't allowed to video tape any of the concert by security, but she didn't listen. She covered her camera with one of our T-shirts and recorded it.

Hanson came out and thanked everyone for all the gifts we had given them, but asked us to watch where we were throwing stuff 'cause they might get hit. Taylor then did an impression of what would happen. They also told us that they would not be actually singing, they would lip synch the song for their next video, which is going to be "I Will Come To You". They said they would have to lip synch the song 4 times. Hanson then played a game of Simon Says with the audience. They quickly finished the game. They then did the song once. Before they filmed again for the 2nd time, Taylor told the crowd that they were crazy, Isaac told the crowd something else, and Zac started singing a song from Star Wars. They then began to record. At the end of the song, when they carried out the "You.......", my mom says that Taylor hit Isaac on the arm and pointed up to me and my sisters, while whispering something. This is really cool, if it's true that they were actually pointing to us. I HOPE THEY WERE. They then recorded for the 3rd time. This time they were going to record just the audience. Zac told us to fix our hair, put on our make-up, etc. This was pretty funny. They then recorded. They then recorded for the 4th time. In the middle of recording, Zac got out from behind the drums, got down on his knees in front of his drums, and pretended to sing into his drumsticks and he also danced. They then had to record for the 5th time. When they started to record, Zac started to play "Wipe Out" on the drums, instead of "I Will Come To You". So, they had to record it a 6th time. The sixth time it went great. The concert then ended and everyone had to leave.

We then exited the building to get to our bus, which would take us home. There was a large crowd of fans standing in front of Hanson's van. My mom said if we hadn't come up on a bus, we would have stayed longer, but, oh well. We then got on the bus. Some girls that were riding the bus with us, then came onto the bus, SQUEALING WITH JOY. They had gotten one of Zac's drum sticks. They are lucky!!!!!!! We then started the 3 hour drive home. We watched the recording of the concert who knows how many times. Finally we reached home. The radio station had us come on and tell about the concert. We did and then we started home. It was midnight. We got home and watched the video AGAIN. We didn't fall asleep that night until 3am and woke up that morning around 7 or 8, still filled with excitiment.

The End!
